Saturday is well worth a visit, definately the best club at the moment for a nice dark range of music (in the Hardside room) - if you get bored there's plenty of toys, like playstations or the skateboard ramp. Well laid out and a great venue for club nights and gigs

Mon 19th February Interzone is back! Rocsoc types have taken over the 2nd room at Loaded. It was a really good night last time, a mixture of Goth/Industrial/Gabba, and the drinks are really cheap. Hope to see you all there!

Generally specking, Hardside on Saturdays is not so great, and tend to end up as a whole evening of nu-metal, which is likely to crush anyone's spirit. On the other hand, there's some nice classic 80's stuff played in res rocks, and mullets and ribbons abound.

For anyone who doesn't know it's now closed. Moving to the old law courts in september time (it's such a good venue- if they do it right it should be the best alternative venue in the country bar none). In the meantime the nights have moved to The Archers (on The Wicker) until June, then Corp is taking over the NMB (Sheff Hallam Students Union, near the train station) until the new place is ready. the new place will have three main "areas" (eventually - probably open with work continuing on one). This increases the likleyhood of a dedicated goth area on certain nights. If you see Mutley during the break, pester him about it!

Date for moving to the law courts has been put back 'til next year. Problems include getting a new licence in the wake of a major drugs bust at Republic, and people claiming that a "new" club will bring too many people to the city that the police can't control. Muppets!

News: From Fri 11th January until further notice, The Corporation is moving to a new home at what used to be "The Unit Nightclub" (ex rave-type place - go along Division street to The Forum, turn down, past The Devonshire Cat and keep going, addy is 1-3 Milton St, Sheffield). I was in Unit once, interesting modern building, should be OK, esp for cybergoths! So we finally get a weekly Reservoir Rocks gig again - it's been a _long_ half-year!

That's good news, that at last it's found somewhere more permanent. From what I hear, it can only fit 600 people inside, so my advice is: get down early...

I have been informed that Hardside has gone back to its roots and is now as 'extreme' as its fliers always suggested. And on friday they have opened a third room - retro drop - which is apparantly a good night out. More info once i have been!

More news: The third room on Fridays, "Retro Drop", now plays classic 80s and early 90s Goth and Punk, leaving the main "Drop" to focus on the current stuff. (From a poster in the Tut & Shive, Sheffield).

Have been to the new venue. Has to be said that my reaction is mixed, at best. As much as I love all the split-level, balcony, and stairs stuff, the necessity of having all of those lights on really spoiled it for me. Yes, I know they're in case of fire, and ave to be on due to regs, but it really messes with the atmosphere of the place. That said, it's still a very entertaining Saturday night out. the music hasn't really changed, aside from the extra room (which when I went, on the Saturday, appeared to be mostly spinnging thrash metal tunes. A welcome return to form.

Retro Drop is great fun, the music being all that you'd expect from the name. Anywhere which plays PWEI - Def COn One followed by Front 242 - Headhunter definately gets my vote! The DJ seems to genuinely like what he is playing too, plus you get a wonderful mix of people in there, from punks with red braces and tigfht-laced DM's, throught the goth crowd, to indie kids who have wandered in and realised how great it is.

Can anyone say how many stairs there are in the new venue? Not that I'm idle, I'm on crutches for a while, and not all staircases are equal. Like, are they those open plan things with scary leg breaking gaps, do they have sturdy bannisters suitable for hauling ones ass up? (And if not, why not, hmmmmm?) More importantly, can you get a drink at the bar without eastern bloc style queues?

Having been to the new venue at least once a week since it opened, I'm still impressed. It's got great atmosphere - something which Corp lost while at NMB. And the new Friday retro-room is great.

Yeah the atmospheres back @ corp, it was kinda crappy at NMB, Monday are good for cheap vodka/coke hehe, saturdays are probably best for music, when they start playing the crap nu metal stuff youre normally too wasted to care :)

whilst I still miss the old Corporation, the new one is still a good club. The music is varied enough that you can always escape the nu-metal by going to another room, though i rarely venture out of the Retro Drop on Fridays. At last- consistantly good music at a Sheffield venue!

Saturdays seem perfect for semlly, ignorant children with clothes they may grow into if they're allowed to live that long. Three rooms, cunningly with identical "music" policies. Admission's a bit steep @ a fiver, but at least they don't charge you to leave.

The only problem i have with this place is their bloody mailing list. Half the gigs sound mental. It's just a shame i live near on a hundred miles away. Aaaaargh!

Just a note to say that mondays are now called 'oddball' and its the most varie night they have, definately my favourite. Main room plays 'old skool metal', one of the downstairs plays trancy/EBM-y type stuff (great if you're a cyber)and the other room plays whatever the DJ (or anyone who makes a request)feels like, and invariably turns to goth just after midnight :) entry is £3.50 and vodka and mixer is 50p all night!

The Retro-Drop room now it's moved to a Saturday is basically a weekly goth club with a bit of goth, electro and industrial, so Sheffield *does* have a weekly goth room :) This room is now moving to the old 'hair metal' room next door so will be bigger from now on too. Do go to Batfink when its on tho as it's much bigger and generally ace!

i know its kinda strange living in scunthorpe/hull going out in sheffield but the thought of spiders again and ill go bald. I must confess i flit from the retro drop room to the metal but its certainly a good night. This is coming from someone who stays sober too. A huge varition in the "goth room" alt 80s, industrial, trad goth, punk, latest choons and rather alot more, also if you do have a gruffer but shiny metal side upstairs certainly does pull out some stops.

I'm bemused that Saturdays are perceived by Gothvodka as full of children. I found the age range to be quite broad...obviously not been on a Monday (Oddball)...lol. There are 3 rooms of music: One playing goth, industrial, alt 80's & 70's punk. One playing classic rock, glam & aor & one playing metal, nu metal, hardcore etc. I don't think this music policy could get any more cunningly unidentical and I spent all night between all rooms! PS: I got there at 10:30pm and only paid £1 to get in...BONUS...I WIN ....HA HA...LOL

Tut tut tut Mutley been the club owner he would say that lol. Still its a fair comment mondays are good fun with there 50p vodka deal but music and age group is a little sketchy at times much better of late though. However the goth room has taken a bad turn of late with the absense of there more interesting (modern) dj industrial /techno and been has taken a back seat for now has been overun with trad or punk hope this improves soon!

Ok what goth gigs have been canceled? None that I know of.Funny also how the room has worked well for a long time,I always play requests(always have done)if your not happy moan to the pesron playing the music, not some web site, you will get a far better response :-) Lets see how it works shall we,I am playing punk, you don't like it so you walk out,I play a few tracks, look around but the people who don't like punk have walked out,I change the direction of the music & play what people have asked for but there sat elsewhere moaning!so since I am doing nothing different than normal,if your not happy tell me as for industrial/tecno,taking a back seat tell me what you want,e mail me,I don't mind, again moan to me not a message board.

I don't remember there being a goth room at the Corp, and I can't see how Jozafeen DJing in the alternative room would make it any more of one. I don't see the 'industrial / techno' dj and her mates leaving is really so much of a loss. I for one have absolutely no problem with not having to hear dross like Aqua's Barbie Girl (is that really industrial/techno?) not to mention the same few VNV remixes and the like. Remember folks, Retro Drop is an alternative room in a rock club. If you want to hear chart music and beepy stuff you're better off looking elsewhere. If you want to here a quality range of alternative music from ASP to Zodiac Mindwarp then you've gone to the right place.

Hardside on a Saturday has a great mix of classics and recent tracks, as does Res rocks for those who enjoy that sort of music. Unfortunately, there is a wealth of goth-friendly music being totally ignored and thus a sizable prospective audience remaining untapped. there are only *so* many dodgy 80s alt tunes out there y'know. Just the tuppence worth of a loyal 7-years-so-far Corp patron who is feeling a tad short changed lately.

Must say due to a rather depressing city and past I have started to go to sheffield more often, and nelsons/cooperation are becoming our regular haunts. The people in both places are so friendly, drinks are resonably priced and there's some good variation to suit all. Such a large place and has the decor and atmostphere that an alternative place should have! Definelty one of the best places around to go to after nelsons.
