Description | Ziggy's, Ziggoires, Club Z. Where to begin? Is it Goth? No. Is essential? No. Can people posting comments about it keep them libel free? I doubt it. BUT it does have a curious, aching tooth kind of compelling grip that finds people there week in, week out. Plays a mix of Nu-metal, Pseduo-punk and Alternative, with the occasional NIN/Ministry/Other played to death quasi Goth/Industrial-lite thrown in. Friendly and worth a look, despite the moans all the regualrs have.. |
Opening Hours | 10pm-2am every Tuesday |

| Ziggys on tuesday is the only regular 'alternative' club in York, and its dirt cheap, this is why everyone goes because they know everyone else will be there out of sheer necessity |

| And incidentally, my old stamping ground (occasionally literally). Tall people should watch out for the ceiling, as the main club is in the cellar, and depending on what the decor is like this millenia (I can say that now), it's sometimes gothic-ish (if the lights are out). Used to be very popular with teenagers, the alternative students (dunno if any still exist), and a certain class of complete stoner ... [grin]
If Brian is still DJing, beware a tendency to clear the dancefloor to demonstrate that his music taste is more "cutting edge" than anyone elses - but he was a metal fan once, and can sing along to Anthrax with no problem! |

| Speaking from a former alternative student perpective, I found Ziggys to be a good laugh if you don't go there with high expectations. The bar people are friendly as is the atmosphere and the drinks are quite cheap. Despite the crminal amount of nu-metal played, the occasional goth/industrial song may be played especially if you go there the Tuesday after WGW. Two Sisters songs played last time I went after Whitby had finished :) |

| Ok here i go without trying to be offensive.
The best description of Ziggy's is that it is a drug
When you go there for the first time, probably around October
then the music is good and will be for a couple of weeks. This is the
pure drug to get you hooked.
After that it is just a downward spiral to oblivion. Soon the drug is
mixed in with rubbish nu-metal and songs by Soggy Wafer.
But by now you are hooked. All your friendsgo and without
going you would not see them. One day you will find
yourself in the back of a taxi overdosed on nu-metal and
13 year olds wearing Kurt Cobain T-shirts wondering how they can even
remember him.
God bring back Toffs rock night please. Either that or a Ziggy's patch |

| I remember there was a time when ziggys played its fair share or NIN/Manson/Sisters.
The last time I went was mainly nu-metal and a bit of pop-punk. They even played Blur! But for the only real alternative night in york, and drinks at cheapo prices.
Take a look. And grit your teeth. |

| I think Ziggy's is the metal equivelent of a cheesy disco. It's not all that bad but not somewhere to go if you want a seriously goth night. |

| All the traditional music forms are slowly being eliminated here in favour of their nu variants. There's little metal, industrial's a rarity and Halloween is the only time you'll hear anything vaugely goth. All that, and the atmosphere has been getting progressively more agressive over the past year. Unless you're addicted to the company, don't go. |

| as the dj, yes that bryan, i appreciate the inclusion of ziggys here.
tuesday is know known as blackout @ ziggys, and has always been an alternative night, never a dedicated rock goth brit pop or whatever club night. I always try and play whatever scenes are rising and established in the broad spectrum of 'alternative' music, when oasis blur were selling bucketloads, i even touched on them, coming to ziggys now you'll hear pop punk alt rock metal a bit of cyber, yep, vnv included, as well as some hip hop, a couple of cheesy tunes inc alt cheese!! stuff like goldfrapp and all sorts...
cheers for the comments everyone and i hope you can keep enjoying yorks only true alternative club night out...

| Ok, Ziggys isn't great- Lets face it. but it's dirt cheap. A good atmosphere, and if you're into general alternative music and some goth/industrial lite, then you'll be fine.
Beats drinking cider on the streets. Or going to a club like Silks (Is that still open??) |
