I think it is now Bi-weekly at the Met Union. Two rooms, one New-Metal/Rock and the other Old rock, cock rock and whatever...(though not industrial as the flyer states). Nothing amazing, it's a standard enough rock night, had live bands on last time I was there who were a very mixed bag. Major plus points are the beer prices, £1 a pint on a Sat.

Only ever been twice and theres a good reason for that. The student unions far better in the day minus the ageing rockers and underage children...save yourself a fiver and hold a disco in your room!

This is more a place for the 'Nu-Metal' crowd really, despite there being an 'old metal' room secreted away (didn't even know it was there for 3/4 hour). Lot's of younger types hanging around with big backpacks on (perhaps it was a day trip)?! Not a place I would recommend at all, even with the cheap drinks, unless maybe you've been banned from Jilly's, and are stuck for someplace to go.

This place isent bad at all, its not JUST a place for 'new metal' stuff, they got a classic metal room aswell, drinks are quite expensive tho.

They now have a website for this place - http://www.rockkitchen.co.uk/ They didn't play any goth music last time I went, although they did play the odd 'old punk' track.

Although my friend (y2jabba) seems to be a fan! I can't say I am, the music remains far too commercial, is an alright place to come if you were really drunk, with loadsa your mates!

this place is pretty cool but as sara (sparklypilly) said it kind of plays nu-metal but i kindda prefer jillies tho its got better music.

you cant call the music commercial just because its popular among a certian kind of culture, the musics the same as you'd find in and rock/alternative club. Jillies plays the same music in the main room too so how is it better?

Stayed in the classic rock room last time i went and all my requests were met, the D.J's were lovely and they didnt at all mind playing goth stuff....

The atmosphere here is absolutely wonderful, it's just a shame the music is 'nothing special'. A danky little venue like this would be perfect for a weekly goth night, IMO, despite the large degree of competition from Jilly's.

I went for the very first time on Saturday and I thought it was really cool. Rather have Rock Kitchen then Jillys it seems really more alive and not as pokey. I'll defo be going again :-D plus its very cheap so even better !

this place is great if you can afford it. if you're not a poor student though, it's great. £1 pint of carling, can't go wrong! but i agree with Y2Jabba, whenever you go to the bar you can always hear better music in the classic rock room. Even though the main room is mainly mainstream, it's a good atmosphere and everyone's really friendly.

I go to R.K quite alot now, and stay in the classic rock room. I am noticing more and more gothe are appearing. There "goth" cd selection is small but they do try and put on what they have if it is asked for. Really cheap beer and a great vibe. Would recommend it highly...

I'm a Jilly's regular but the one time I went to RK instead was a big mistake. In my experience, unless you are a youngie little student, you struggle to get served as the bar staff just serve their youngie little student friends. I complained to a manager and went to the bar upstairs instead. Maybe it's changed since then but I've never been back to find out. Don't get me wrong, I'm not studentist - or youngist, but when it comes between me and my drinks then there's a problem and I'm having none of it!

Not a good night out. It's near impossible to get served and they play mainly angsty metal shite for the 'ickle students.
